about fred silberberg

BIOGRAPHY

One of Los Angeles’ most experienced family law litigators, Fred Silberberg has specialized in the field for over thirty years. Because of the increasing complexity of family law cases—and the fast pace at which the laws in this arena change—only specialists should handle these matters. Fred relishes the challenge of the interesting, unusual and problematic cases, the complex and sophisticated cases. He is not afraid of controversy, or to advocate a position that might be unusual or unpopular.

Throughout his career, Fred has prided himself on taking a personalized approach to every case. While highly trained junior attorneys and paralegals are employed to keep costs low, Fred personally handles the major responsibilities of each and every case to win victory on behalf of his clients. Fred is always accessible, communicating with his clients on a regular and timely basis.

A recognized leader in the field, Fred has served on the Los Angeles Superior Court Family Law Mediation Panel for over 15 years, and is also a prolific writer and media commentator. For many years, Fred was the author of the op-ed Family Law Forum Column in the Daily Journal. Fred is also a regular contributor to The Huffington Post. He has been interviewed by a variety of media outlets, including The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Katie Couric Show, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, People Magazine, KCAL Channel 9, KABC Radio, Entertainment Tonight, and E! Entertainment Television.

CERTIFIED SPECIALIST IN FAMILY LAW

Because of the increasing complexity of family law cases, and the fast pace at which the law affecting these cases changes, such matters should only be handled by specialists. The State Bar of California has enacted a program for certifying attorneys as specialists in a few fields; family law is one of them. In order to obtain the specialization designation, an attorney must show proficiency in this area by having handled a sufficient number of cases with varying degrees of complexity. An attorney must also pass a written examination, and be approved by a peer review process. Substantial continuing education is also required. This process ensures that attorneys having the designation are well qualified to handle family law matters. Fred has been certified as a family law specialist by the State Bar of California.
